Clipper ‘98/99 Round-the-World Yacht Race

1998 – 1999 Watch leader on 60 foot racing yacht "Taeping", 65.000 km race round the world from Plymouth, U.K., watch www.clipper-ventures.com for details. Watch leader is responsible for racing performance on his watch.  Placed fifth of seven yachts that completed, accident in the Pacific hampered better finish.

1997 – 1998 Responsible for maximizing value from long term take-or-pay supply contracts into Conoco’s U.K. natural gas pool, involving the fields Ann/Alison, Britannia, and Murdoch, total purchasing budget about $100 million in 1998.  Generated $6-7 million p.a. after-tax in reduced purchase costs by optimizing purchasing pattern.  Negotiate laying of fiber-optic network through Conoco-operated platforms in the Southern UK basin.

1996 – 1997 Due diligence and divestiture of Kinetica Ltd, a 50/50 joint-venture with PowerGen plc in the U.K. gas retail market, successfully completed 1. April 1997.  Reduced operating losses experienced in the extremely competitive and over-supplied U.K. gas retail market.  Achieved asset value through divestiture.

1994 – 1996 Marketing Conoco’s U.K. natural gas in Europe, culminating in the first U.K. to Continent contract signed through the Interconnector pipeline, a ten-year contract to Wintershall Gas GmbH for 1 billion cubic metres p.a. delivered to the German border starting in 1999. Current sales revenue in excess of $150 million p.a.  Supported Conoco’s efforts in Former Soviet Union and coal-bed methane in Europe.

1993 – 1994 Acquisition of deep- and shallow-water acreage off Vietnam, South China Sea.  Currently one of Conoco's promising new frontier areas with both production and significant future growth potential.

1992 – 1994 Conoco’s Decision and Risk Analysis Work Team to ensure consistent world-wide approach to exploration risk and decision-making.  Improve ability to compare exploration prospects throughout Conoco's worldwide portfolio.

1991 – 1993 Supported Conoco’s investment and acquisitions efforts in Gabon, Angola, Somalia, New Guinea, New Zealand, Timor Gap and coal-bed methane projects in Europe.

1988 – 1989 Evaluated oil and gas property acquisitions and divestitures on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Propose to the Board of Norske Shell to acquire competitor’s Norwegian assets. Maintained database to benchmark performance of competitors vs. Shell.

1987 – 1988 Analysed the value and supported the sale of two mining operations for $11 million. Established $3 million facility to expand company mining output from 250,000 to 500,000 tons. Performed currency hedging to limit exposure in foreign exchange.


1994 The Alphatania Partnership, "Natural Gas – The Commercial Challenges", an intensive training course in Oxford, U.K., to better understand the commercial drivers in the natural gas industry.

Conoco’s Decision and Risk Analysis program, Houston, Texas, U.S.A. to implement company-wide approach to exploration risk and decision-making.

1989 - 1991 Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, U.S.A., Master of Management, concentrating in managerial economics, finance and international business. Grade point average: 3.5 out of 4.0, graduated with Honours. One of the highest rated business schools in the world.

1986 – 1987 Norwegian Army Corps of Engineers, Hvalsmoen/Eggemoen, Hønefoss, Norway, 12 months officer training, current rank sergeant, elected chairman of cadet class.

1981 – 1985 Colorado School of Mines, Golden, Colorado, U.S.A., Bachelor of Science, Petroleum Engineering, covering reservoir, drilling and production engineering. Elected President of Engineering Honour Society. Grade point average: 3.5 out of 4.0, graduated with Honours.


Vice-chairman of Cercle Norvégien de Paris, non-profit social club for Norwegians and other friends of Norway in France.
